At the end of this blog I mention expectations about next week - well next week was here this morning and it was quite a lot less than I'd hoped for. However, never say die and all that. I'll try again next monday.

Jan 30, 2006 Concert at S___ Manor

I began this recitation with The Reader's Digest Family Songbook which has very simply-to-play arrangements of many old standards. Unfortunately, as you will see, I reached a patch of Gershwin tunes that wore me out for a minute. However, I recover...
Tk01 - If You Were The Only Girl In The World

Tk02 - I Wonder What's Become Of Sally?

Tk03 - Pretty Baby

Tk04 - April Showers

Tk05 - Smiles

Tk08 - I'm Looking Over A Four-Leaf Clover

Tk06 - It's A Long, Long Trail

Tk07 - My Buddy

Tk09 - Charleston

Tk10 - In A Shanty In Old Shanty Town

Tk11 - For You

Tk12 - Poor Butterfly

Tk14 - Til We Meet Again

Tk15 - When Day Is Done

Tk13 - If I Could Be With You One Hour Tonight

Tk16 - Happy Days Are Here Again

Tk17 - The Man I Love

Tk18 - Embraceable You

Tk19 - Someone To Watch Over Me

Tk20 - Fascinatin Rhythm (failed attempt)

Once the Gershwin got me worn out, I decided to fall back to a book of J.S.Bach's Two-Part Inventions
Tk21 - Bach Invention No.2 in c minor

Tk22 - Bach Invention No.3 in D Major

Tk23 - Bach Invention No.4 in d minor

Tk24 - Bach Invention No.13 in a minor

Here I switched to volume II of 'The Essential Andrew Lloyd Webber', the section from the musical 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
Tk25 - The Next Time You Fall In Love

Tk26 - All I Ask Of You

Tk29 - The Point Of No Return

Tk28 - The Music Of The Night

Tk27 - The Phantom Of The Opera

Tk30 - Think Of Me

Tk31 - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

These next three tunes are from a Jerome Kern Songbook:
Tk32 - Look For The Silver Lining

Tk33 - They Didn't Believe Me

Tk34 - Why Do I Love You?

At this point

I return to the Reader's Digest Family Songbook for a final Cole Porter tune.
Tk35 - Begin The Beguine

At the end

I always try to improvise a little something. It's easier than sight-reading and it makes for a change. The brevity and sloppiness of this one I take as a sign that I had given my all during the preceding pieces and was on my last legs (or fingers, if you like).
Tk36 - Improv by XperDunn

A Happy Return

After more than a month away, due to fatigue, I was pleased to have recorded something I could take a little pride in. This was important to me, since the inclination to pack it in was foremost in my mind. I am now ready to continue next Monday.
